Kylie Chciuk  Attends SUNY Delhi Trip to South Africa

2012 Mar 20

Kylie Chciuk  of Whippany, NJ was one of 10 SUNY Delhi Veterinary Science Technology students who spent 23-days in South Africa to learn about wildlife conservation and the crucial role veterinary medical staff play in the country's growing wildlife industry. The trip marked the college's first official study abroad program and was the result of on-going partnership with EcoLife Expeditions and the University of Pretoria.

Chciuk  is a first-year student studying Veterinary Science Technology at SUNY Delhi.

Students visited a number of unique facilities that related to endangered species breeding, wildlife rehabilitation and reptile conservation. At the Balule Nature Preserve, they honed their bush skills by tracking wildlife and learning how to immobilize animals in the wild to provide medical care.

Delhi students also assisted with a spay/neuter clinic of CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare), a non-profit organization that provides services to thousands of pets in disadvantaged communities.

SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology program is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Hands-on instruction prepares Delhi graduates as technical personnel for a career in the biomedical and veterinary medical fields. The program's laboratory facilities are unmatched and feature the only two-year program with a campus primate colony. Internship opportunities with NASA, Rockefeller University and the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell have also helped distinguish Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology as one of the nation's preeminent programs.
