SUNY Delhi's Christopher Pelletier Participates in ASC Design-Build Competition

2014 Dec 12

Christopher Pelletier of Petersburg, NY competed in the 2014 Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Competition in the Design-Build category. Pelletier is pursuing a bachelor's degree in construction management at SUNY Delhi.

SUNY Delhi placed 3rd in the Design-Build category, which required six students to create a proposal for a 42,000 square foot basketball complex on a North America collegiate campus. Students were required to design the building using the latest available software, estimate the costs, schedule the project and develop business, logistic, and other associated documentation in a time frame of 16 hours.

The ASC Design-Build Competition requires companies to offer and actual construction project to students so that they may estimate, schedule and prepare value-engineering studies for the project. Students are also asked to develop safety, quality and cost control procedures and answer technical questions related to the project. An oral report of their findings is made to a team of jurors from the sponsoring company who determine the winner. Companies such as Kiewit have previously sponsored the ASC Design-Build Competition.
