SUNY Delhi Appoints Michael O'Donnell as Chief of Police
Delhi, NY (02/25/2025) — SUNY Delhi is proud to appoint Michael O'Donnell as Chief of University Police. O'Donnell, who joined SUNY Delhi as a lieutenant in 2020, has served as interim chief since October 2024.
As Chief, O'Donnell leads a department of 16 employees with 11 sworn members and five civilian staff. He has over 24 years of law enforcement experience, including serving as interim assistant chief at SUNY Oneonta.
"Chief O'Donnell has a proven track record of leadership and an understanding of the complexities and challenges facing police departments today," said SUNY Delhi President Mary Bonderoff. "I am confident that his commitment, sound decision-making, and proactive approach will continue to enhance student well-being and safety on our campus."

The University Police Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is responsible for providing security, emergency response, and the detection and prevention of crime on campus. University Police officers are New York State certified with full police powers to investigate and enforce all laws and regulations.
Michael O'Donnell holds three SUNY Delhi degrees, including a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. His connection to SUNY Delhi dates back to the 1960s when his grandfather, James O'Donnell, began his nearly 30-year service as a Public Safety Officer.
O'Donnell resides in Oneonta with his wife and has two daughters.
