SUNY Delhi Offers Job Training Workshops

Courses introduce participants to high-demand jobs in the trades

Delhi, NY (06/26/2019) — SUNY Delhi is hosting a series of hands-on job training workshops to the public as an opportunity to meet training requirements and develop skills in a variety of trades.

Upcoming workshops include Introduction to Welding from July 15 to August 12, ServSafe Food Safety Certification course on October 14, and Notary Public Workshop on October 22. Other workshops in the areas of landscape design, horticulture, electrical construction, and carpentry are also planned for fall of 2019.

All workshops take place at SUNY Delhi and are open to individuals ages 17 and up. No previous experience is required. The length and cost of the workshops vary.

"We live in a time where there is a huge demand for tradespeople," says SUNY Delhi Assistant Professor Nicholas Sinstack who taught a fully enrolled job training workshop on electrical installation and maintenance in June. "Employers in the electrical field alone are calling us personally to look for qualified employees. With these workshops, we expose participants to skills that might open the door to lucrative careers."

Marisa Miller of Delhi, NY, attended the electrical workshop with no prior knowledge of the field. With an associate degree in Liberal Arts, she is hoping to get into the trades for better employment opportunities. "I've learned so much and am considering enrolling in the electrical program at SUNY Delhi after this," she said.

The revenue from the workshops supports student scholarships and equipment purchases for academic programs at SUNY Delhi.
