SUNY Delhi Administrator Selected for SUNY Civil Discourse and Civic Engagement Fellowship
Delhi, NY (09/22/2026) — Elizabeth Hoyt, assistant to the Vice President for Student Life and Chief Diversity Officer at SUNY Delhi, has been selected for the third cohort of the State University of New York's Civil Discourse and Civic Education & Engagement Fellows.
Elizabeth Hoyt is one of 12 faculty and staff members from across the SUNY system selected for the 2026-27 cohort. The fellowship supports SUNY's efforts to strengthen civil discourse, civic education, and civic engagement across its campuses. Fellows develop and share resources, provide support to faculty and campuses, and help advance the new civic discourse core competency in SUNY's General Education Framework.
"Elizabeth has been deeply committed to civic engagement at SUNY Delhi for years, creating meaningful opportunities for students to become informed, involved, and confident participants in their communities," said Dr. Shai Butler, Vice President for Student Life. "This fellowship is a natural extension of that work, and I'm excited to see her bring her experience at Delhi to colleagues across SUNY while also bringing new ideas and resources back to our campus."
Elizabeth Hoyt chairs Delhi Broncos Vote, SUNY Delhi's nonpartisan voter engagement initiative, which provides students with voter education and resources and coordinates events and activities throughout the year. The college has received state and national recognition for its student voter engagement efforts.
"I am excited and honored to work alongside the Civic Fellows this year and continue the great work of previous cohorts," Hoyt said. "I look forward to developing additional resources that give students opportunities to practice civil discourse and participate in civic engagement. Action develops confidence, and the more opportunities students have to apply what they learn, the more prepared they are to make a positive impact on their campuses and in their communities."
Hoyt joined SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. and fellow cohort members for a Constitution Day roundtable on September 17 focused on civil discourse and civic engagement in higher education.
Beginning in fall 2026, SUNY's General Education Framework includes civic discourse as a core competency for undergraduate students, helping students develop the skills to engage constructively with differing perspectives and participate meaningfully in civic life.
