SUNY Delhi to Host Equity Summit
Fostering equity and social justice on college campuses
Delhi, NY (09/30/2019) — SUNY Delhi will be hosting an Equity Summit on Friday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on the SUNY Delhi campus. The one-day event offers a forum for educators and students to reflect on how to foster equity and social justice on college campuses. The summit has drawn 126 registrants from 18 colleges and universities within New York State, including representatives from the SUNY System's Office of Applied Learning and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Equity in education addresses and seeks to eradicate disparate opportunities experienced by students in curricular and co-curricular activities. Through panel discussions, guest speakers, and breakout sessions, the summit aims to enhance all participants' commitment to student success and equity.
The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Vijay Pendakur from Cornell University on the topic of "Empowering Generation Z: Equity Design and Tomorrow's Student." Dr. Pendakur will then conduct a session for faculty and staff on using design thinking to close equity gaps. Award-winning activist Lea Webb from Binghamton University will host a session for students, engaging them in a discussion on what it means to be an ally and support social justice. The day will conclude with a networking reception.
