SUNY Delhi Enhances Student Voter Engagement through ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and Grant
Delhi, NY (09/19/2024) — SUNY Delhi continues its commitment to fostering civic engagement by participating in the national ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which focuses on nonpartisan student voter outreach on college campuses. To further assist in these efforts, SUNY Delhi will utilize a mini-grant received through the Ibis Group to increase student voting and civic awareness ahead of the November elections and throughout the year.
SUNY Delhi's student voter outreach, support, and resources are coordinated through the Delhi Broncos Voter Engagement Committee. Actively seeking to provide students with opportunities to learn about and participate in the democratic process, the committee will utilize the grant to train civic ambassadors to engage their peers through themed tabling and social occasions, host voting reminder events, provide transportation to polls, and assist students in submitting their absentee ballots.
Dr. Mary Bonderoff, president of SUNY Delhi, emphasized the importance of civic participation in higher education, stating, "We believe in preparing students not just for successful careers, but for a lifetime of informed, engaged citizenship. The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, coupled with the mini-grant through the Ibis Group, will enhance our ongoing nonpartisan efforts to nurture a culture of civic awareness."
SUNY Delhi's student voter outreach contributes to SUNY's larger initiative of promoting civil discourse and civic education, which aims to ensure that every student knows their voting rights and the importance of civic participation.
